Dear Friends

Things are starting to move- and there is never any notice when they do!

As you know we were working towards a stakeholder meeting and the formation of a TAC branch, to be held on Tuesday, 11 February.

I was called today by Councillor Billie, from the Amathole District Health Council, who has become a champion for our cause. He is hoping to bring Mrs Gede, the District Manager (it is she who will decide about future health services for our ward) to Chintsa and is currently proposing this coming Monday. I am waiting for a phone call from Mr Mali from our Great Kei Municipality for final arrangements. I am working on Monday and was going to ask if we could meet up with the DOH in Chintsa at 3pm on Monday but nothing is certain until Mrs Gede confirms.

I propose the following:

  • For those of you that wish to participate please diarise Monday afternoon as a potential stakeholder meeting with the DOH about health services for our ward. This will be an essential meeting to achieve our resolutions. At this point I cannot tell what the probability is of this meeting taking place…

  • I still wish to keep the Tuesday slot at 2pm as this is when the TAC representative can come to help us set up our 1st TAC branch. If the meeting does not happen on Monday we can have a wider stakeholder meeting on the Tuesday to strategise for the year. If the Monday meeting does happen this can be smaller group of those people wanting to join TAC.

Sorry it is all so short notice and vague! But this is the nature of the game.  I am very pleased that the District Health Council has taken on our cause and so far the channels are working, albeit at a slower pace than I would have liked.

Will keep you posted

  1. I am not sure what Mr Mali's angle is in all this. He is ward councillor for us here in ward 3 and is busy trying to set up an informal settlement across the road from our farm under the specious guise of projects for which there is no identified budget inthe IDP or plans put forward. No services and a lot of promises. Meeting (he says) at old church sunday week at 9am.
